Free Diabetes Education Classes

Valor Health, in partnership with Southwest District Health, has scheduled free diabetes education classes this New Year. Classes will be held every other month and will review topics, including general diabetes education, prevention and wellness strategies, healthy eating, and meal planning.

A Healthy Eating in the New Year Class was held earlier this month and received great attendance from local community members. The participants focused on a New Year’s Resolution inspired class, reviewing smart food choices and meal planning.

“We encourage people with diabetes and their families to learn as much as possible about the disease and it is much easier when a healthcare professional is present to answer your questions,” said Juanita Aguilar, Registered Licensed Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator for Southwest District Health. “Every individual’s experience with the disease is unique,” she said.

According to the National Diabetes Association, diabetes is characterized by high blood glucose levels that result from defects in the body’s ability to produce and/or use insulin. Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States, or 8.3% of the population, have diabetes. 1.9 million new cases are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older each year.

The next class is scheduled March 6th, 2019. Call Valor Health Community Engagement at 208 901 3212 to register or for more information.
