Valor Health held their annual Free Sports Physicals event on August 7, 2019 in conjunction with the Emmett High School Registration. Over 130 student athletes received free sports physicals. Physicals are required for student athletes every two years, and include a vision exam, range of motion testing and a physical review with a Valor Health Physician. Over 30 employees and volunteers dedicated themselves to the day, including Valor Health’s newest family medicine physician, Dr. Eric Donahue, beginning Summer 2020. Nicole Bradshaw, Valor Health’s Executive Director of Physician Services stated, “This being my first year here in Emmett, I am very impressed by the partnership between the school and Valor Health in offering services for the young men and women in the community. Everything flowed so well and loved the positive feedback from parents. The doctors and staff really enjoyed this fun event.”
Valor Health also provided baseline concussion testing to students. For the past few years, Valor has partnered with Emmett High School athletics to provide sports medicine sideline care during EHS homes games. Using IMPACT Concussion Software to assess and manage concussions, students are required to complete annual baseline testing. Over 175 high school student athletes participated. Dr. Robin Sebastian, Family Medicine Physician discussed the importance of baseline testing and watching for concussions in today’s student athlete, “baseline testing is a great tool to make sure our kids are fully recovered before going back to sports. The importance of protecting them from the brain damage that can go along with a second hit syndrome can’t be overstated. It’s exciting to see Emmett taking these steps to protect the minds of next generation.”
Other services Valor Health offers in partnership with Emmett School District includes: healthcare education to students; occupational health services for staff; sports medicine and trainer at athletic events; and athletic and academic sponsorship.
