SANE supports survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and strangulation.
Valor Health is proud to announce the launch of our SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program this year. This program is a critical step in providing survivors with a safe, supportive environment. By integrating forensic care with trauma-informed services, the SANE program allows individuals to feel empowered and respected as they navigate the immediate aftermath of sexual assault, domestic violence or strangulation.

Sexual Assault Services Now Available
The SANE program will offer a range of services, including forensic exams, medical treatment for injuries, and tests for sexually transmitted infections. Registered nurses specially trained in sexual assault forensics will conduct the exams, which are designed to be thorough yet sensitive to the emotional and physical trauma that survivors may have experienced.
This program is available 24/7/365, ensuring that survivors can access care at any time. During their care, survivors will have the option to report the assault to law enforcement or receive confidential medical care without filing a police report. The program also provides counseling and access to advocacy services to help survivors process their experience and navigate the legal and emotional challenges that follow.
How SANE Will Work
When reported, the SANE program works closely with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that the forensic evidence collected during the exams is properly handled and can be used in criminal investigations. In addition to providing direct care, trained nurse examiners can also serve as expert witnesses in court, ensuring that the integrity of the evidence is maintained throughout the legal process.
The launch of the SANE program represents a significant advancement in the community’s response to sexual assault. By providing specialized care and ensuring that evidence is properly collected, the program not only aids survivors in their healing process but also strengthens the pursuit of justice. The program is a testament to the community’s commitment to supporting those affected by sexual violence, domestic violence, or strangulation and ensuring a safer, more compassionate environment for all.
